Where Does Volunteering Take Place?
Wherever they are needed, volunteers serve. The computer and internet access allow many of our volunteers to work from their corner of the globe. Other volunteers go “on location”; e.g., to inventory and assess potential additions to the collection or to collect oral histories or to carry out scholarship that makes use of the materials in the collection.
How to Begin
Complete our simple volunteer application (coming soon). Once we receive your completed application, our volunteer coordinator will contact you to arrange an interview. Then the volunteer coordinator will consult with the committee chairs and project supervisor to match your interests and skills with the organization’s service needs.
Placement considers a volunteer’s knowledge, skills, experience, interest, availability, and location. It considers the projects that need volunteer leadership or assistance and the technology, supervision and support available to help the volunteer do the work. Once a placement is found, a written role description is completed including specifics of the agreed upon task and end product, location, schedule, anticipated start and end dates, and who will provide oversight.
